pope benedict xvi said he will step down for health reasons. his strength had deteriorated to the extent that i have had to recognize my incapacity to the ministry entrusted to me. >> cenk: if you watched "the young turks" for a while you'll know two things. i get very excited when there is the pope. i can't wait for that. that apparently will be in march. number two you'll know that i'm a bit of a cynic and hence i'm not sure that i'm buying their reason because of his health. a lot of popes have had health issues and stayed in there until the end. could it have something to do with the sex scandals. in at the end of january they released a number of doves to celebrate peace. fantastic that they were doing that. but unfortunately the seagulls attacked the doves of peace. some wonder if he was burned by that. for christ' sake we can't even release peaceful doves any more. that's probably not it. here to talk about the serious issues involved in the vatican and how we can make it better going into the future. we have franciscan friars with us th

i would like to point out that this current pope benedict and the last pope, john paul ii both opposed the iraq war. paul ryan believes they were wrong. so that's what kind of a staunch catholic you're dealing with right here. again, the whole essence of this argument is are women who are raped entitled to the choice of what they want to do with that pregnancy? now, i know plenty of folks who describe themselves as pro-life who still feel this way. in fact, the majority of this country supports some or all abortion rights. according to a gallup poll earlier this year, 77% of americans support all or some abortion rights. less than half. only 43% identify themselves as pro-choice. when this gallup poll came out two months ago our pro-life friends made a big fuss about it saying they were winning and that somehow abortion rights was becoming less popular. abortions never popular. so -- but when you look at the actual figures it shows that 77% of all americans don't classify themselves as pro-choice but they do support all or some abortion rights. so again it's not going to happen no matt
